The Chapter

The Florida Chapter was chartered in 1987 and has four sub-chapters or Troops that meet quarterly in four different locations in Florida.

Meetings of the Florida Chapter meets quarterly around the state and are announced in The Charging Saber.  The second quarter meeting will be hosted by B Troop at 1300 hours on 26 April, 2008.  The meeting will be held at the Vietnam & ALL Veterans Reunion at Wickham Park in Melbourne, Florida.  The next quarter's meeting will be hosted by B Troop on 16 August with the location yet to be determined.

The Chapter holds a mid-year reunion in the January/February period of each year.  Our first mid-year reunion was held 19 years ago.  The 2008 mid-year reunion was held 1-4 February, 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel.  The Chapter regularly attends the Vietnam and ALL Veterans Reunion that is held in Wickham Park in Melbourne each Spring.  

The Chapter publishes a newsletter, The Charging Saber, that is published bi-monthly to inform members of Chapter activities and also of activities in the Troops.   We do have a web site for our Chapter and you can visit it by going to http://members.aol.com/b1stcav/flachap.html.  Two of our Troops also have web pages that are listed below.

The Florida Chapter administers a Scholarship Fund that provides a $300 scholarship to children of Chapter members.  This is overseen by elected Trustees that receive, process and award the scholarships from a separate fund from the regular Chapter funds.  

The Florida Chapter has hosted three 1st Cavalry Division Association reunions (Miami in 1966, Orlando in 1988 and 1994) and we will be hosting the 61st Annual Reunion of the Association in Jacksonville, Florida from 18 - 22 June, 2008.  We hope that you join us for a great reunion in 2008!

A Troop meets on the second Saturday of each month at 1000 hours at LJ's Diner & Lounge, 1395 East Main Street in Bartow, Florida (Corner of Main Street and HWY 17.

B Troop meets quarterly at area restaurants in the 329 and 327 area codes.   The next meeting is scheduled for 24 March, 2008 beginning at 1800 hours.  The meeting will be held at the Grand Buffet located at 1437 S. Babcock Street (corner of Babcock and Nasa Blvd.) in Melbourne.   Join us for some good Chinese food and fellowship. 

Florida Chapter "C" Troop

C Troop is located in Central Florida area surrounding Orlando and Orange County and meets at the Orange County VFW Post 2093 located at 4444 Edgewater Drive in Orlando.  These meetings begin at noon.  There are no meetings in June, July or August.  Lee Wozinak has volunteered to be our contact person in the Central Florida Area for those who are hospitalized, sick or those about to enter "Fiddler's Green".  He can be contacted at (321) 276-6943.

E Troop's meetings are generally held at 1300 hours on the last Saturday of each month from August - May at Buddy Freddie's Family Restaurant which is located at the intersection of old US 41 and Bayshore in North Fort Myers.
