The Chapter
The Walter H. Westman Northland Chapter was chartered in 2002 in Minnesota.
The Chapter meets on a quarterly basis. Locations change each time to different areas of the state. The next meeting is scheduled for 26 April at the American Legion Club located at 810 West Lake Drive in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. There will be a social hour beginning at 1100 which will be followed by lunch ($12 beef or chicken) at noon. The meeting will begin at 1300 hours. Send your check (made out to WHW Northland Chapter) for lunch and the number of guests to the Chapter Treasurer, Jim Wright by Monday, 21 April 2008.
The Chapter's most recent meeting was held on 19 January in Bloomington. The meeting was held at the Bloomington Sheraton Hotel which will be the location of the 2010 1st Cavalry Division Association Reunion. The primary purpose of our meeting was to elect new officers to serve for 2008 and their names are listed above. The members of the Chapter were able to tour the facility during the meeting. The Chapter also recognized our Past President Walter H. Westman for his leadership and his predecessor, Bob Hathaway, who initiated our Military Family Assistance Program. LTC (Ret) Michael A. Baumann, the author of Adjust Fire, was our speaker and talked about his time as a commander with the First Team in Iraq.
Robert Levy is the Chapter's Public Relations Advisor and can be reached at 122 Tamarack Court, Stillwater, MN 55082 or by phone at (651) 439-3083.
The Chapter will host the 63rd Annual Reunion of the 1st Cavalry Division Association in June 2010.
The Chapter publishes a newsletter, The Horse Soldier, that published four times a year and is sent to all active Chapter members that contains information of interest. The Chapter has worked hard providing support to the Soldiers and families of deployed Troopers by sending Grocery Gift Cards to the Family Assistance Specialists working with the Minnesota Army National Guard. The Chapter was recognized by the Minnesota Army National Guard for this program and has spent over $7,000 on this program. Money for the gift cards has come strictly from donations. If you wish to support this program, make the check payable to WHW Northland Chapter and mail to the WHW Northland Chapter, c/o Jim Wright, 12781 Able St. NE, Blaine, MN 55434. Please put "Special Fund" in the memo section of the check.
