First Team Veterans Gathering in DC

Veterans of the 1st Cavalry Division and members of the 1st Cavalry Division Association gathered in Washington, DC to honor the Veterans of our Armed Forces and renew old acquaintances.

Hundreds of Veterans from the First Team were in Washington, DC to celebrate Veterans Day and over 100 came by the Association's Hospitality Suite to sign in and visit.  Many others gathered in other hotels to meet together.  Cav Troopers could be seen traveling around the sights of Washington, DC and eating in local restaurants over the days surrounding Veterans Day.

Special Events

The Association placed wreaths at the three war memorials on Veterans Day, 11 November.  With the assistance of the 1st Cavalry Division Honor Guard the President of the Association, James W. Booth, and Association members Ed Times and Mel Gunderson placed wreaths at the World War II Memorial and Korean War Memorial in brief ceremonies on Veterans Day.  Both Time and Gunderson placed a wreath at the Vietnam Memorial during the ceremony conducted there while the Division Honor Guard stood atop the Memorial throughout the ceremony.

LTG (Ret) Hal Moore and Joe Galloway were in the hospitality room on Sunday, 9 November from 1300-1500 hours visiting with Troopers and signing copies of their new book, We Are Soldiers Still.  If you have not read that book, we encourage you to get a copy and take time to read it.

Those visiting in DC for Veterans Day took time to visit many of the sights and historic areas in the District and surrounding areas.  Many groups of Cav Veterans could be seen in restaurants and areas around town having a good time and sharing the experiences.

This was the 15th Anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Women's Memorial and they had some special items scheduled during the Veterans Day time period including being the focus of the ceremonies at the Vietnam Memorial.
