The Chapter

The Fort Knox Chapter was chartered in February 2007.

The Chapter meets on the third Saturday of each month at Barker Masonic Lodge located at 705 Main Street in West Point, Kentucky.  The meeting begins at 1100 hours.  For information contact Larry Whelan lawhelan@insightbb.com.

The Chapter was formed by the same group of Association members that hosted the highly successful 2006 Reunion in Louisville which was attended by over 1,000 people..   At the August 2009 meeting the membership reelected the officers listed above unanimously for another term in office.

On 12 October 2011 the Chapter helped sponsor the Wounded Warrior Picnic at Fort Knox.  We provided drinks and chicken and helped to serve at the picnic.  Louisville, Kentucky hosted the Congressional Medal of Honor Convention during the last week of September.  The members of the Fort Knox Chapter were given the opportunity to serve as Host Teams for the Medal of Honor recipients that visited high schools in the Louisville and Southern Indiana area on the September 29.  Larry Whelan, the Volunteer Host Recipient Coordinator arranged for the following members to serve as Hosts: Ken O'Barr, Larry Whelan, Archie Ellinger, Bob Magruder, Loyd Kelley, Phillip Blevins and Ken Slye.  That evening veterans attended the concert, 'A Tribute to American Valor".  During the visit of the Vietnam Moving Wall to Louisville several members of the Chapter helped to set up the site and take the wall down when the event ended at the Rest Haven Cemetery and was open to the public from 8-11 September 2011.

Fourteen of our members attended the dedication of a granite bench at the Fort Knox Central Cemetery on 20 November, 2010.  The bench was purchased by the Chapter to recognize the First Team members that are currently buried in the cemetery and those that will be buried there in the future.  Our members have attended funerals of First Team Troopers killed in Iraq to provide support to the families and show support for the First Team Troopers serving in Iraq.  We attended the funeral of a casualty of the Korean War, CPL Harry James Reeve on 4 August, 2010.  CPL Reeve was killed in Korea in November, 1950 and his body had been recovered and identified by analyzing DNA.

The Chapter's Public Relations Advisor is Robert W. Griffin.
