The Chapter

The Nevada Chapter was chartered on 26 February 2011 and is located in the Las Vegas area.

The Chapter meets on the 1st Saturday of each month at the American Legion Post #8, 773 Veterans Memorial Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada.  Social time begins at 0830 and meetings begin at 1000 hours.  To get to Post #8 from southbound I-15, exit at Washington Avenue; from norhtbound I-15 exit at D Street and then go across Washington.  Take Washington east to Veterans Memorial Drive (flashing amber traffic lights mark the corner).  Turn right (Veterans Memorial Drive ends at Washington Avenue).  The Club House is on the right side of the Drive.  From I-515 (US Highway 95), exit at Las Vegas Boulevard and head north.  Get in the left lane ASAP.  Turn left to Bonanza, then right to Veterans Memorial Drive.  (big Post 8 sign is on the opposite corner).  The Club House is on the left.  Battle Born Nevada is a large and sparsley populated state.  If you don't live conveniently close or have commitments that conflict with our meeting times but would like to be a member drop us an e-mail.

We have had a great first year as a Chapter.  The Chapter is actively supporting the USO at McCarran International Airport by volunteering time at the canteen.  The Chapter also helps serve diiner to and socialize with the Veterans at the U.S. Vets Facility in Las Vegas one Saturday a month.  On 13 August 2011, the Chapter accepted a start-up donation from Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 17.  The monies will be used to start programs or support programs in Nevada for First Team members throughout the state.  In October we were invited to the Las Vegas Intertribal Pow-Wow where they awarded the Warriors Medal of Valor.  This was our first year participating in the largest Veterans Day Parade west of the Mississippi.  We were allowed two vehicles and had special guest in them.  One was Gold Star Mother Marsico Lilliam.  She rode in a classic gold Cadillac.  The other vehicle had some of our auxillary members.  Heading up the troop was our banner being held by two ROTC students from Las Vegas High School.  The Chapter will be helping to mark and honor Veteran's grave sites at the Boulder City Cemetery this Memorial Day.  The Chapter is also planning a Spring Soiree and hope to make it an annual event for our members.

The Public Relation Advisor for the Chapter is Ken Gallagher,  Co. H (Rangers) 75th Infantry  and the Sergeant at Arms is Tony Cannela.
