The Chapter

The NCR Chapter was chartered in July 2007.  Its area covers Washington, DC and the surrounding area including Maryland and Northern Virginia.

Currently the NCR Chapter has approximately 70 members with 20 to 30 members who actively participating on a monthly basis.  The Chapter breakfast meetings are normally held at 0900 hours on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the American Legion Post 176 located at 6520 Amherst Avenue in Springfield, Virginia.  Breakfast begins at 0730 (good selection and a good price) and the meeting normally begins at 0900.   The January 2011 meeting will be held on 21 January.  Come early and enjoy breakfast with us.  Meetings are NOT held during the months of November (Thanksgiving) and December (Chapter Holiday Party) and July and August (Summer Vacation).   We encourage you to join us at our meetings.  We also ask that you invite fellow Troopers and their families to attend.  This is a family event with many wives and family members attending our meetings.  It is also a very informal atmosphere where comrades in arms meet with everyone having an active voice.  

In 2011 the Chapter started out the year celebrating the 90th Birthday of Bill Richardson and his much younger wife Eva.  Bill is a 7th Cav Vet and one of the Charter Members of the Association.
 
The Chapter has been fortunate to have outstanding guest speakers during the year who spoke on the following topics: The Division in WWII from its deployment from CONUS to occupation duty in Japan, the organization and function of the US Forces Command, the compassion and training of a joint Military and Civilian Civic Action Team deployed to Afghanistan, changes in the social and economic structure in the US leading up to the Civil War and members of the Vietnam Memorial staff briefed us on the proposed education center (the Chapter donated $100.00).
 
The year saw a continuation of our regular Chapter programs to include: 

• Visiting the Wounded Troopers at Walter Reed and the VA Hospital and Polytrama Center in Richmond
• Sending Packages to  Cav troops in Afghanistan.
• Assisting with the Katz's Deli luncheon at Walter Reed and with the Stoney Creek Rod and Gun Club Range day and lunch.
• Hosting the Association's Veterans Day gathering and Annual Veterans Day Dinner.   Wreaths were laid at the WWII, Korean and Vietnam memorials with the Division's Honor Guard participating   (Pictures of the dinner can be viewed on Face Book at "Cavalry Veteran's Day Dinner") 
• Thanksgiving dinners were provided to the Wounded Warriors and their families stationed at Walter Reed.
• The Chapter's last duty in the year 2010 was representing the Association at the funeral of SSG David C. Dolby, 1-8 Cav, MOH on 14 December, our last in 2011 was the funeral of SSG Joseph Roberts, 1-8th Cav.  Both served in Vietnam at the same time.  The Chapter was represented at all services for Cav Troopers held in Arlington National Cemetery during the year.  We represent not only the Chapter and the Association but all former and present members of the Division.  We are a proud Band of Brothers and Sisters. 
• The Chapter holds its meetings on the 3d Sat of the month.

We encourage you to get involved and participate in our Chapter activities.
